Evans Nimako, Director of Elections for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has dismissed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) claims that the Electoral Commission’s (EC) voter register figures are inaccurate as premature.

During Thursday’s Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting, the NDC argued that the EC’s figures for the December elections were short by nearly 26,000 voters.

In response, Dr. Abdul-Rashid Tanko Computer, Deputy Director of Elections and IT, said on Eyewitness News that the EC’s IT department acknowledged the discrepancy and committed to addressing the issue at the next IPAC meeting.

“They mentioned that the total registered voters as of now are 18, 690, 408, this was the figure given and she gave the regional breakdown then came in to say that this limited registration in 2024, they registered 778,313 and these are the figure she registered.

“Then we said if they registered 778,00 for this limited registration, then your figures are not correct. The figure of 18 million is not correct…We told them and they said they were going to bring their IT department to explain in the next IPAC meeting to interrogate the figure to see where the problem is because there is a shortfall of almost 26,000,” he stated.

Evans Nimako also stated that the issues raised by the NDC can be resolved after the forthcoming mop-up exercise and the exhibition of the provisional register.

“The EC said based on the calculations you have given us, we will bring in our IT people for them to offer an explanation, I think that should not create any confusion.”
