John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticized President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for failing to follow the example set by former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

Mahama argues that under President Akufo-Addo’s leadership, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has become plagued by severe cronyism, leading to diminished confidence and disengagement among party members.

During a community engagement as part of phase 2 of his Greater Accra regional tour, Mahama suggested that the NPP should enter opposition to address its internal challenges.

“I have many friends in the NPP and I know that they themselves are disappointed in the performance of their government. So many of them I have met, have said no, we are not going to vote, we are not happy with what is happening. But I beg them, we all know that this NPP that is in government is not the NPP you and I know.

“We have seen [John Agyekum] Kufuor as leader of the NPP before. It was not the same as what is happening today. So we know that it is a small family and friends that have hijacked their party.

“So they shouldn’t say they won’t vote. They should vote for NDC so that it will help them to take the party to opposition. Then they will sack that family and friends people away and take their party back.”
