The New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primary in Walewale was disrupted once again when the voting process was abruptly halted before completion.

Although voting had concluded and ballot sorting was underway, police officers unexpectedly removed the ballot boxes from the room.

The chairman of the election committee reported that the disruption was caused by an unidentified individual, leading to police intervention and the arrest of the person responsible, as confirmed in an interview with Channel One News.

One of the parliamentary candidates, Dr. Mahama Tia Kabiru, voiced his deep disappointment with the handling of the process, further tarnishing the primary election in the Walewale constituency.

“This is a very pathetic situation. We pride ourselves in democracy. We always claim and boast of same that we are the beacon of democracy. But the basis upon which liberal democracy is founded, NPP prides itself in that.

“A democratic process has been organised, sorting was done and someone out of fear knowing that there is imminent defeat, has decided to disrupt the process. We know the person. I have raised issues.

“This morning you remember the chaotic situation that visited the accreditation by the same person. So, if someone tells me he doesn’t know that person, then I am afraid… He has been arrested; the former constituency chairman of Yagaba Kubori, Akamara Bawa.

“You tell me you don’t know him, you don’t know someone who has been on the campaign platform campaigning for the MP. Such a person has abused the processes, disrupted the processes, I just hope the police will let the law take its course,” he stated.
