The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Agona West, Cynthia Morrison, has announced her decision to run as an independent candidate in the 2024 parliamentary elections.

The former Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection made this announcement while speaking to her constituents, stating, “God willing, I will be contesting the parliamentary election as an independent candidate.
This is not about the NDC or the NPP; it’s about the development of Agona.”
This decision follows her defeat in the NPP parliamentary primary held on Saturday, April 13, where she received 152 votes, while Christopher Arthur secured the nomination with 240 votes.
Despite the loss, Morrison, who has been committed to the development of Agona West, urged her constituents to back her independent bid.
“I don’t mind if you vote for former President John Dramani Mahama or Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. But what’s most important is for you to vote massively for Cynthia Morrison so I can continue the work I’ve started,” she added.
Cynthia Morrison first won the Agona West seat in the 2016 general elections and was re-elected in 2020 as the NPP parliamentary candidate, securing 30,513 votes out of a total of 59,193 valid votes cast.
