Dr. Frank Bannor, a Development Economist and Head of Research at the Danquah Institute, has highlighted that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 general elections manifesto represents a significant departure from traditional governance and development methods.

He emphasized that this is the first time a political party in Ghana has committed to such a transformative shift in national strategy.
In an interview with France24 news, Dr. Bannor noted, “What’s truly remarkable is that, for the first time in Ghana’s history, the NPP manifesto aims to bring about a paradigm shift. We cannot continue with the same old approaches and expect different results.”
He explained that Ghana’s development has been hampered by reliance on conventional methods without a clear, innovative plan to address socio-economic challenges.
The NPP’s manifesto, according to Dr. Bannor, seeks to overcome this stagnation by calling for deliberate and strategic efforts to drive meaningful development.
Dr. Bannor stressed the need for a clear vision and plan, stating, “We’ve often adopted policies and approaches that lack a coherent vision for the future. Development must be intentional if we want progress, we need a vision and a plan to achieve it.”
He commended the manifesto’s focus on economic diversification, technological innovation, and human capital development as crucial areas for Ghana’s global competitiveness and sustainable growth.
Dr. Bannor concluded that this paradigm shift is essential for Ghana to move beyond dependency on foreign aid, volatile commodity prices, and unstable global markets.
