The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has introduced a ‘Road Safety Code of Practice for Political Activities’ to reduce election-related crashes.

The code guides politicians, parties, and supporters to prioritize road safety during campaign activities. Director-General David Osafo Adonteng emphasized that party leaders must ensure vehicles are in good condition and driven by qualified drivers.

The code aims to reduce road fatalities during the election season. Statistics show a significant increase in road crashes during election years, with 11% and 10% rises in 2016 and 2020, respectively.

The NRSA aims to make Ghana’s road transportation system the safest, reducing crashes, fatalities, and injuries. The code is a response to the alarming trend of increased deaths during election years, often caused by political parties’ disregard for road traffic rules.
