The National Sports Authority (NSA) has rejected claims of neglect and mismanagement at the Tarkwa and Abosso (TnA) Stadium in Tarkwa, Western Region, following statements from Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Benjamin Kesse.

In a press release dated September 18, 2024, the NSA denied reports that it had been “chased out” of the facility, asserting that a local committee had not taken over its management due to alleged poor upkeep.
The NSA labeled these claims as “false” and clarified that it has been managing the stadium since it was handed over by the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation just a month ago.
The NSA emphasized its commitment to “exceptional maintenance service” at the stadium, highlighting positive feedback from recent events such as the GHALCA Top 4 Tournament and a Medeama First League match.
They characterized Kesse’s claims about neglect as misinformation intended to incite public discontent toward the NSA.
Additionally, the NSA accused certain influential stakeholders of attempting to “personalize” the use of the public facility for their own interests, reiterating that the stadium is a national asset meant for community access.
The NSA called for collaboration among stakeholders to maintain the facility, warning that any threats to the safety of its staff could lead to the stadium’s closure.
Construction on the TnA Stadium began four years ago and was completed in June at a cost of US$16.2 million.
The Executive Secretary of the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation, Razak Abubakar, stated that the renovation transformed the 400-seat football park into an 8,000-plus seat stadium suitable for international matches.
At the handover ceremony on August 16, 2024, officials from the Gold Fields Foundation confirmed that the NSA would manage the facility with support from the Tarkwa Municipal Assembly, emphasizing their expectation for proper management.
However, the Tarkwa Municipal Assembly has since expressed dissatisfaction with the stadium’s maintenance under NSA management.
The NSA reiterated its dedication to ensuring proper upkeep and equitable access for all users, urging the public to disregard misinformation about the situation at the stadium.
