On Wednesday evening, Nsoatreman FC issued a statement distancing itself from remarks made by the club’s General Manager, Eric Alagidede, regarding Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s promise to provide buses for Ghana Premier League teams.

Dr. Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer for the 2024 Ghana Presidential and Parliamentary Elections, had pledged to deliver 18 buses to the clubs if elected, with the aim of easing their transportation challenges.

During an interview on GHOne, Alagidede expressed doubts about the significance of this promise, arguing that tax rebates for sports goods would be a more urgent priority for the clubs.

He stated, “I don’t think there’s a Premier League club in Ghana without a bus. These are not the immediate needs of clubs in the country, in my opinion.

We have continuously, administration after administration, requested tax rebates for the clearance of sports goods.”

However, Nsoatreman FC clarified that Alagidede’s comments were his personal views and did not represent the official position of the club.

“The club does not endorse the opinion of our General Manager on this matter and therefore dissociates itself from it,” the statement read.

“The club fully supports any government initiatives aimed at addressing the challenges faced by football clubs in the country, including Dr. Bawumia’s promise to help each league club acquire a suitable bus for its operations.”

Nsoatreman FC, which is backed by Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, a member of the ruling party, is currently competing in the CAF Confederation Cup for the first time, having earned their place by winning last season’s FA Cup.

The club recently won the first leg of their preliminary round match against Elect Sport with a 3-0 victory in Accra.
