Five New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters in the Jaman North Constituency narrowly escaped death when their pickup truck, branded with Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s name, caught fire in the early hours of Wednesday, November 22, 2024.

The incident occurred while the group was on their way from Sampa, the constituency capital, to Seketia for a house-to-house political campaign in support of the NPP’s flagbearer. According to eyewitness accounts, the fire started suddenly as the vehicle was traveling along a stretch of road.
The supporters, who were traveling in the vehicle with a public address system and a generator set, noticed smoke emanating from the back of the truck.
Mr. Emmanuel Frempa Amponsah, an NPP polling agent and one of the occupants of the vehicle, said that upon seeing the smoke, the driver quickly pulled over to inspect the source of the issue. However, before they could assess the situation, the vehicle caught fire, engulfing it entirely.
The fire completely destroyed the pickup truck, along with personal belongings, including mobile phones, money, and campaign materials. Thankfully, the five occupants managed to escape the vehicle unharmed before it was fully engulfed in flames.
The cause of the fire remains unclear, but investigations are ongoing. Authorities from the Ghana Police Service and the Fire Service are looking into the incident.
The NPP party has since reported the fire to the police and is working with law enforcement agencies to determine the cause and assess any potential foul play or technical malfunction that could have led to the blaze. The party has expressed relief that there were no casualties, but emphasized the need for a thorough investigation to prevent future incidents.
Local residents and supporters of the NPP in the constituency have rallied around the affected campaign team, showing their support in light of the unfortunate event.
