Constable Smith Gyekyi, a 25-year-old policeman, has been charged with murder following a shooting incident at Koans Estate in Kuntunse Satellite, Greater Accra.

The charge stems from a dispute over a ride-hailing fare that resulted in the death of 25-year-old Stanley Ahadzi.
Gyekyi, who was off-duty at the time, was driving a Toyota Matiz registered GW 6459-21 and operating it as a commercial vehicle.
On August 18, 2024, around 3:00 a.m., he picked up a passenger, Esther Owusua, from Ablekuma Joma to the Koans Estate area.
When Owusua lost her way, she contacted Ahadzi for assistance.
Upon arriving at Koans Estate, a disagreement over the fare ensued. Gyekyi, reportedly annoyed by the argument, fired a warning shot before fatally shooting Ahadzi. Gyekyi subsequently reported himself to the Amasaman Divisional Police Station, where he was arrested and detained.
At his arraignment at the Adabraka District Court, Constable Gyekyi was remanded in custody.
The court, presided over by Ama Adomako Kwakye, will review the case further on September 9, 2024.
The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Achana Apewah, is continuing its investigation into the incident.
