Ghanaian highlife musician, Ofori Amponsah, has acknowledged the current financial challenges facing the country but insists these issues are due to external factors rather than economic mismanagement.

Speaking on October 20, 2024, Ofori Amponsah, who has openly expressed his support for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), explained, “What we are facing as a country is external shocks. I studied economics in school, so I understand it.”

He further noted that solving the crisis will require collective action from all sectors of society, emphasizing that no single political party can resolve the situation alone.

“Every country faces financial difficulties at some point, and now it’s Ghana’s turn. We can’t give up because it’s not something that one person or party can fix. We all have to come together as a country,” he stated.

Amponsah pointed out that fluctuations in the value of the cedi against the dollar are inevitable, regardless of which party is in power. He called for introspection as a nation to identify the root causes of the economic challenges. “We need to come together to fix this country,” he added.

In an interview on The Day Show with Berla Mundi, the ‘Otoolege’ hitmaker also expressed concern over the increasing number of Ghanaians emigrating in search of better opportunities.

He lamented that many overlook the potential within Ghana itself, particularly in areas like farming, and warned against a mindset of cutting corners for financial gain, which he believes undermines the country’s economy.
