Dr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, the former National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has strongly criticized the current government’s economic strategies, calling them destructive and responsible for the widespread suffering among Ghanaians.

While on a campaign tour in the Volta Region alongside the NDC’s vice-presidential candidate, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Ofosu Ampofo likened the government’s economic approach to “weapons of mass destruction,” arguing that it has severely damaged the livelihoods of ordinary Ghanaians.
He urged the electorate to support the NDC in the upcoming elections, emphasizing that an NDC-led government would implement policies aimed at alleviating economic hardships for all citizens.
Ofosu Ampofo expressed that “President Akufo-Addo has become a weapon of mass destruction” and added that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s economic policies have similarly resulted in widespread destruction, including the collapse of banks, community banks, and microfinance institutions, which had been crucial for local businesses and women in particular.
He also highlighted the impact on Groupe Nduom, with over 3,000 workers losing their jobs, further asserting that the current economic policies have caused irreversible damage.
“Bawumia’s economic policies are weapons of mass destruction, and we will not allow him to deceive Ghanaians any longer,” he stated.
Ofosu Ampofo also took the opportunity to criticize Bawumia for distancing himself from the Economic Management Team while promoting digitization, questioning his role in the country’s digital infrastructure.
He reminded Bawumia that the foundational digital infrastructure, including the fibre optics and the Accra Digital Centre, were established by former President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.
“Today, Dr. Bawumia has abandoned his previous role and is claiming credit for digitization. What has he contributed to Ghana’s digital landscape?” he asked.
With the general election approaching, Ofosu Ampofo underscored the importance of trust in leadership, urging voters to choose a government that would prioritize the economic well-being of Ghanaians.
