Daniel Marfo Ofori-Atta, the Secretary to the Okyenhene, has initiated a defamation lawsuit against Hopeson Adorye and Media General over comments made about the “Agyapadie” document.

According to the writ of summons, Mr. Adorye, a member of the Movement for Change (M4C), appeared on Media General’s “Onua Maakye” program around July 26 and made unfounded remarks concerning the “Agyapadie” document, falsely identifying Mr. Ofori-Atta as a co-writer.

During the broadcast, Mr. Adorye claimed, “I mentioned it, D.M Ofori-Atta. It stated that he is a co-writer. He is a friend of mine and I know him.

If you glance at the page that talks about the hijacking of GBC, it will never work.

Now the judiciary governance in Ghana… It has been stated in here in the document.

Let’s pack the court so that in the next twenty years they can be in control. Are you surprised more people are being nominated to the Supreme Court?”

Mr. Adorye also alleged that the document featured images of President Nana Akufo-Addo, Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, and Dr. JB Danquah, along with the insignia of Okyeman, suggesting that these images and the references to Mr. Ofori-Atta and others were intended to mislead people into believing the document originated from Ofori Panin Fie.

In response, Mr. Ofori-Atta is seeking a court declaration that the statements made by Mr. Adorye on Media General’s platform are defamatory. He is also requesting:

  • GH₵10,000,000 in general damages, including aggravated and/or exemplary damages for defamation.
  • A public apology and retraction of the defamatory statements.
  • A perpetual injunction preventing the defendants, their agents, or assigns from repeating similar or any other defamatory statements against him.
