The High Court has denied bail to Oliver Barker Vormawor, a lead convener of the Democracy Hub protest.

However, it directed the Circuit Court to begin prosecution within 72 hours, stating that if this does not happen, the bail decision could be reconsidered.

The court cited Barker Vormawor’s prior bail for treason felony charges as a key reason for the denial, expressing concerns that he could commit another offence if released. Section 96(5c) of the Criminal Procedure Act (Act 30) was referenced to justify the decision.

On the other hand, five others, including Felicity Nelson, were granted bail of GH₵20,000. Barker Vormawor’s lawyer, Justice Srem Sai, argued that his client had consistently appeared in court over the past three years for his treason felony trial, making him unlikely to evade the current misdemeanour charges. However, the judge maintained that the risk of reoffending was significant enough to deny bail.

This decision follows an earlier ruling granting bail to Ama Governor and eight other protesters.
