Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the Defence Minister-designate, has committed to ensuring fairness and regional balance in the recruitment process for the Ghana Armed Forces and other security services.

During his appearance before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on January 28, Dr. Omane Boamah stressed the need to create a recruitment system that addresses regional disparities, particularly in military recruitment and medical evaluations.

He acknowledged the advantage candidates in Accra have due to the proximity of the 37 Military Hospital and vowed to implement measures that would ensure medical assessments and recruitment procedures are accessible to candidates from all regions.

His commitment aims to create a transparent and inclusive recruitment system that upholds fairness and provides equal opportunities for candidates regardless of their location.

“I’m a student of equity and we will ensure that all the principles of equity are applied to the procedures that the recruitment process follows. For example, if somebody is in the Upper West region, and the person is going to be enlisted or recruited. How does the person go through medicals? If somebody is in the Upper East, same.

“If somebody is in Accra, obviously the person may have a certain advantage. 37 Military Hospital is just right here. And so, we will look at all the equity principles to ensure that regional balance is attained.”
