One civilian dead, police officer injured, and five arrested in Okanta shooting

On July 30, 2024, Daniel Dosu, a complainant in an ongoing case, was killed, and a police officer was injured in an ambush at Okanta near Nsawam in the Eastern Region.

The Ghana Police Service has arrested five individuals in connection with the incident.

According to a report on the police’s official Facebook page, the ambush occurred when officers from the Eastern South Regional Police Headquarters, accompanied by Dosu, were on their way to make an arrest at Okanta.

Daniel Dosu, the complainant, suffered a gunshot wound to the forehead and was rushed to the hospital with the injured police officer. Unfortunately, Dosu was pronounced dead upon arrival.

An intelligence-led operation following the attack led to the arrest of the prime suspect, Daniel Quaye, who was identified as one of the individuals Dosu was assisting the police in apprehending.

Further investigation led to the arrest of four additional suspects: Anum Joseph, Joshua Aboagye, Kwesi Acquaye, and Samuel Acquaye. The weapon used by Quaye was also recovered.

The body of the deceased has been placed in the Police Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy, while the injured police officer has been treated and discharged from the hospital.

Suspect Daniel Quaye, along with the four accomplices, is currently in police custody and assisting with the investigation.
