Organized Labour has called on President John Dramani Mahama to exercise caution in implementing his directive to suspend post-retirement contract extensions for public sector workers.

This appeal comes in response to the government’s recent announcement halting the renewal of such contracts across the public service.
Labour leaders have expressed concern about the potential impact of the directive on institutional memory and service delivery, urging broader stakeholder consultations before enforcing the policy.
Reacting to the decision, Organized Labour expressed concern that the move could lead to a loss of valuable experience within the public sector workforce.
Joshua Ansah, Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), in an interview with Citi News, stated:
“I always say that the development of this country is the hallmark of every Ghanaian. So, whatever policy may come that will help develop the country, I am for it. But any policy that comes to bring the development of this country down, I don’t think you will go for it. So, let us see how it works.”
