Organized Labour has declared a nationwide strike scheduled to begin on October 10, 2024, in response to ongoing frustration with the government’s perceived inaction regarding the environmental damage caused by illegal mining, commonly referred to as galamsey.

This harmful practice has significantly affected rivers, forest reserves, and farmlands throughout Ghana.

Representing various unions across the country, Organized Labour stated that the strike aims to compel the government to meet their demands, which include implementing a ban on all forms of small-scale mining.

In a statement, the leadership of Organized Labour encouraged its members to stay home on the designated days.
