The Office of the Special Prosecutor has confirmed receipt of a petition from North Tongu Member of Parliament, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, requesting an investigation into an alleged dubious procurement deal for ambulance spare parts worth $34.9 million (GH₵538 million) involving former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

On July 22, Ablakwa accused the former Finance Minister and former Health Minister, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, of collaborating with a private company to defraud the state. He claimed that Ofori-Atta hastily approved the deal just five days before being removed from office.

Ablakwa pointed out that the beneficiary company, Service Ghana Auto Group Limited, was incorporated on April 24, 2020, raising questions about its ability to service ambulances commissioned in 2019.

In a statement signed by the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, it was noted that the office will begin an investigation once it determines that the case falls within its mandate.

“We have acknowledged receipt of a filed complaint as titled above. The Special Prosecutor will direct the commencement of an investigation if he determines that the matter is within the mandate of the Office of the Special Prosecutor. You may be contacted for further assistance should the need arise.

“Please accept the compliment of my highest consideration,” he stated.
