The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has officially declared former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta a fugitive, escalating the ongoing corruption investigations against him.

The declaration came shortly after armed men in military uniforms raided Ofori-Atta’s residence on Tuesday afternoon, though he was reportedly out of the country on a medical trip to the United States at the time.

The OSP had previously summoned Ofori-Atta to appear before investigators concerning alleged financial misconduct. His legal team had assured authorities of his cooperation upon his return. However, during a press briefing in Accra on Wednesday, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng confirmed that Ofori-Atta is now considered a fugitive.

Agyebeng outlined several areas of investigation, including the procurement of contractors and materials for the National Cathedral project, activities related to a contract awarded by the Ministry of Health for ambulance services, and the management of the Tax Refund Account of Ghana.

He further stated, “The fugitive’s name is Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta.”

The OSP, however, has denied any involvement in Tuesday’s raid on Ofori-Atta’s residence, fueling speculation about the circumstances surrounding the incident.

This latest development adds to the legal and political tensions surrounding the high-profile investigations into financial irregularities involving the former finance minister.
