Ghana coach Otto Addo has expressed frustration after the Black Stars conceded late goals in consecutive 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Addo criticized the goals as “cheap,” highlighting concerns over the team’s defensive lapses during crucial moments. In their most recent match against Niger, Ghana took the lead but allowed a late equalizer, ending the game in a 1-1 draw. This followed a 1-0 loss to Angola, where a poor clearance led to another late goal.

“We conceded a quite cheap goal against Angola, and now again. I’m really, really disappointed, and we have to stay alert to defend these situations better,” Addo stated.

He emphasized that the team had specifically trained for such defensive scenarios but still struggled during critical moments.

With just one point from two games, Ghana currently sits third in Group F, behind Angola with 6 points and Sudan with 3 points.

Otto Addo’s team will need to strengthen their defense and improve their performances if they are to secure qualification for the 2025 AFCON tournament.
