Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston has voiced strong support for Black Stars coach Otto Addo, insisting that he deserves another opportunity to complete the 2026 World Cup qualifiers despite the team’s failure to secure a spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Kingston, speaking in an interview with Flashscore, urged that making another managerial change at this point would be a “disaster,” especially after Ghana’s disappointing AFCON qualifying campaign.
Despite the team’s poor performance in the AFCON qualifiers, Kingston believes that continuity is crucial for the Black Stars’ future success.
He acknowledged the frustration over Ghana’s failure to qualify for the AFCON, but emphasized that the World Cup qualifiers remain a priority.
With six games left in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Kingston believes there is still hope for Ghana to secure a spot.
Kingston further stressed that Otto Addo, who is deeply disappointed by the outcome, should be given the chance to reflect on the failures and make improvements as the World Cup qualifiers progress.
He argued that changing the coach and technical team now could lead to further disruption, which would hurt the team’s chances.
“The right decision now is to allow Otto to finish the World Cup qualifiers,” Kingston said. “We can evaluate his performance after that and make a decision as a country.”
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council is set to meet on Wednesday to review the Black Stars’ performance and discuss the future of Otto Addo as coach.
