Otto Addo is set to continue as head coach of Ghana’s Black Stars despite the team’s disappointing failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco. After submitting his technical report, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council convened a lengthy meeting and decided to retain Addo but overhaul his backroom staff. A new technical advisor will also be brought in to support him.

Appointed in March 2024 for a second stint following Ghana’s failed 2023 AFCON campaign, Addo initially impressed with back-to-back wins in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
However, his AFCON qualification campaign was disastrous, with the team failing to win a single match, managing only three goals in six games.
Despite mounting calls for his dismissal, Addo received support from notable football figures, including former internationals Laryea Kingston and Ibrahim Tanko.
The GFA’s decision to keep him suggests confidence in his ability to lead the team to secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Addo’s contract runs for three years, with an option to extend for an additional two years. While his AFCON campaign was a setback, his performance in the ongoing World Cup qualifiers will be closely monitored as Ghana seeks to reestablish its dominance in African and global football.
