Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the Vice Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has raised alarm over the significant challenges facing Ghana, with particular concern for critical sectors under severe threat.

During her three-day visit to the Ashanti Region, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang spotlighted the alarming degradation of essential resources, notably the country’s water bodies.
Addressing professionals and the business community in the Nhyiaeso Constituency, she stressed the urgency of safeguarding these resources to ensure they are preserved for future generations.
She also criticized current educational policies, particularly the teachers’ licensure examination, arguing that it does not effectively enhance educational quality.
Additionally, she spoke out against the double-track system, urging parents to advocate for their children’s education by voting for the NDC, as she believes this system compromises educational standards and needs reform to benefit students nationwide.
“Unlike tertiary education, which has an accreditation board, the pre-tertiary sector, a crucial area, has received little attention. I still question why graduates from colleges of education are required to sit for a licensure exam.
“Our academic calendar is now in jeopardy, with students attending school for just two to four weeks, then staying home for three months.
Where are the parents? Now is the time to act because, in our secondary school days, things were never like this. The times may be challenging, but we are ready to work together for the country’s benefit,” she remarked.
Appealing to residents of the Ashanti Region, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang urged them to support John Dramani Mahama in the upcoming election, highlighting the Kejetia Market project as proof of Mahama’s commitment to regional development.
