During his #Mahama4Change2024 tour of the Upper East Region, Former President John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), shared his vision for Ghanaian farmers and agribusinesses.

He outlined plans to strengthen the agricultural sector and improve food security nationwide.

His policies include creating special agro-industrial zones in all sixteen regions, which will focus on adding value to locally grown crops where Ghana has a competitive advantage.

“This will boost exports and reduce our reliance on raw material imports, ultimately strengthening our economy,” Mr Mahama said.

Secondly, he said they will create farmer service centers all over the country. These centers will give farmers the technology, equipment, and resources they need to improve food security and grow the economy.

By promoting better farming methods, digital tools, and strong farmer groups, the aim is to help farmers succeed and encourage innovation.

“Finally, we will launch a programme inspired by the successful “Operation Feed Yourself and Industries” initiative of the early 1970s. This programme will focus on making Ghana self-sufficient in basic staples, significantly reducing unnecessary imports, and ensuring that our people have access to affordable and nutritious food, thereby securing our food supply.

“As I have stated on my rounds and during engagements with the chiefs and religious leaders, when we vote for the badly needed change in the December election, Naana Jane and I will lead a government that will work with you, the people of Ghana, to build a more prosperous and food-secure future for Ghana.

“My call to action is to vote for John Mahama on 7th December to work towards a thriving agricultural sector that benefits farmers and consumers. #LetsBuildGhanaTogether #Mahama4Change2024 #AgricultureForAll,” Mr Maham wrote on his X page after his tour of the Upper East Region.
