The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has announced that their strike will persist unless the government implements a National Labour Commission (NLC) ruling in their favor.

At a press briefing in Ho on August 15, CETAG emphasized their determination to continue the strike until their demands are fully addressed.

The association has been advocating for better conditions of service since 2021, but despite numerous negotiations, they have not reached a satisfactory agreement with the government.

CETAG’s spokesperson, Dominic Owusu, highlighted that in 2022, after stalled negotiations, the NLC ruled in CETAG’s favor, directing the government to provide compensation.

However, the promised actions have yet to be fulfilled.

CETAG has expressed frustration with the Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, accusing him of being indifferent to their plight despite previous promises.

They have also criticized the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) for its lack of proactive support.

The association’s demands include the full implementation of the staff audit report, payment of 20 months of arrears, and proper recognition of academic ranks.

CETAG has made it clear that they will not end the strike until they see tangible evidence that their demands are being met.
