Mr. James Klutse Avedzi, Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), has reiterated the need for prosecuting individuals indicted by the Auditor-General’s Report to curb violations of the Public Financial Management Act (PFMA Act 921) of 2016.

He emphasized that those identified in the Auditor-General’s Report should face legal action to deter others and prevent recurring misconduct in public financial management, noting that some of the infractions were intentional.

Mr. Avedzi stressed the importance of enforcing financial laws to hold accountable those who breach the Act.

Speaking to the media in Sunyani during a three-day public hearing on the 2023 Auditor-General’s Report, Mr. Avedzi highlighted the participation of public institutions from the Bono, Bono East, Ahafo, Ashanti, and Western North Regions, including Senior High Schools, Colleges of Education, Universities, and Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs).

He mentioned that the committee had referred numerous procurement breaches to the Attorney General’s Department, expressing hope that those responsible would be prosecuted promptly.

Mr. Avedzi underscored the necessity of imposing punitive sanctions, such as fines or imprisonment, to serve as a deterrent to others.

He also criticized the revenue mobilization efforts of the various MDAs mentioned in the Report, urging them to prioritize revenue generation and better manage government properties.
