Ghana’s Olympic campaign in Paris 2024 took a hit as their 4x100m relay team was disqualified in Heat 2.

The team, made up of Abdul Rasheed Saminu, Benjamin Azamati, Ibrahim Fuseini, and Joseph Paul Amoah, initially finished sixth with a time of 38.62 seconds but was disqualified due to a late baton exchange.

The top three spots in the heat were claimed by China, France, and Canada, with China leading at 38.24 seconds, France at 38.34 seconds, and Canada at 38.39 seconds.

This disqualification mirrors a similar issue at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where Ghana missed out on a medal due to a changeover violation.

Ghana’s overall campaign in Paris 2024 ended without medals. The team’s performance was hindered by earlier setbacks: swimmer Harry Stacey and Joselle Mensah did not advance past the heats, and Rose Yeboah did not make it to the high jump final.

Despite promising performances from Azamati and Saminu in the men’s 100m events, where they reached the semi-finals, they were unable to advance to the final.

Ghana’s time at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games ended with these setbacks, showing it was a tough campaign for the country.
