The 2024 Olympic Games officially opened with a historic and unforgettable ceremony along the Seine River.

Despite persistent rain, the event showcased the city’s iconic landmarks as the backdrop for a spectacular celebration of sport and culture.
Football legend Zinedine Zidane initiated the proceedings by passing the Olympic torch to tennis great Rafael Nadal. A star-studded lineup, including Serena Williams, Nadia Comaneci, and Carl Lewis, carried the flame down the river before Marie-Jose Perec and Teddy Riner ignited the cauldron in a unique aerial display.
The ceremony featured a series of unforgettable performances, including a captivating act by Lady Gaga and a highly anticipated appearance by Celine Dion, who performed Edith Piaf’s “L’Hymne à l’amour” at the Eiffel Tower.
For the first time in Olympic history, the opening ceremony was held outside a stadium. Athletes from around the world, including Team Ghana led by flagbearer Joseph Paul Amoah, paraded along the Seine in boats.
The Games, featuring over 10,000 athletes competing in 32 sports, will continue until August 11.
Despite the challenges posed by the rain, the Olympic spirit shone through, creating a memorable opening ceremony for both athletes and spectators.
