Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Vice Presidential Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and MP for Manhyia South, has criticized the recent behavior of the Minority Caucus in Parliament.

He described their actions on October 22, 2024, as “unruly,” specifically condemning their attempt to instigate a violent confrontation by occupying the seats designated for the Majority Caucus.

During a Stakeholders Engagement at Pantang Nursing and Midwifery Training College on Thursday, October 24, Dr. Opoku Prempeh emphasized that Parliament should be a forum for rational debate rather than conflict.

He stated, “The free-for-all fight and bloodshed they [NDC Minority] were hoping for in Parliament last Tuesday did not occur. We did not engage in that behavior because we are disciplined and mature.

“Parliament is a space for intellectual debate, not a boxing ring. Unlike them, the NPP always prioritizes the peace and stability of our country,” he remarked.

Drawing on nearly 16 years of experience in Parliament, he advised NDC members to concentrate on their legislative duties and the welfare of their constituents instead of engaging in disruptive behavior.

He condemned the notion of resorting to violence as inappropriate for elected officials.

In his address, Dr. Opoku Prempeh also took the opportunity to highlight the achievements of the NPP government, particularly in the health sector, mentioning the Agenda 111 policy and the restoration of nursing trainee allowances that had been previously cut by the NDC.
