The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has directed that the reconvening of Parliament, scheduled for Monday, December 16, 2024, be held at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

This announcement follows a circular issued by the Speaker’s Office on December 11, officially confirming the venue for the crucial parliamentary session.

The directive builds on an earlier notice from the Speaker, dated December 2, 2024, which outlined the resumption of parliamentary functions.

The choice of date and venue comes amid ongoing political discussions and preparations in the post-election period, signaling a critical phase in Ghana’s governance transition.

The call for the reconvening of Parliament on December 16, 2024, has been a point of considerable discussion and debate in Ghanaian political circles, especially due to the timing and the circumstances surrounding its announcement.

Speaker Bagbin had previously faced repeated requests from the Majority in Parliament to recall the House ahead of the December 7 general elections.

These requests were made in light of the electoral processes and the need for legislative interventions in the lead-up to the elections. However, Speaker Bagbin rejected these calls and instead chose to maintain the original date for reconvening.

Below is the Speaker’s circular.
