The Minister of Interior, Henry Quartey, and the Director General of the Ghana Prisons Service will meet with the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament on Monday, July 29.

They will discuss issues about the Ghana Prisons Service Barracks at Cantonments and the land at Roman Ridge in Accra.
This meeting comes after the Coalition of La Associations and the GaDangme Coalition Against Land Injustice announced a series of protests, starting Tuesday, against what they believe is the unfair seizure of lands by political groups in the Greater Accra Region.
The group is worried about plans for a private developer to redevelop the Prisons Service lands at Cantonments and use part of the land for private business.
Peter Lanchene Toobu, Deputy Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament, told Citi News they need to get first-hand information before visiting the area.
“There have been several complaints of late of a businessman who has taken over the government’s land and the complaints are unfriendly, and as a committee responsible for this particular sector, we find it necessary to have a fair idea of what is happening and also listen to the people.
“In fact, we invited the Director General of the Ghana Prison Service to appear before the committee and give us some briefing. Probably that will help us when we move into the area, we will have some courage and we will be able to tell Ghanaians what the state of affairs is.
“We need to ensure that what is done is right. All we need to do is to listen to the director general of the Ghana Prison Service and the Minister of the Interior, what we’re hearing and what the state of the matter is,” the deputy Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament stated.
