An unusual incident occurred at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) on Sunday, September 22, when smoke was detected from a passenger’s luggage in Terminal 3 around 3:27 p.m.

The airport’s Aviation Security team responded quickly, isolating the bag and evacuating all passengers in the terminal to ensure safety, following the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) Emergency Operations procedures.

The passenger was subsequently handed over to the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) for interrogation.

Management issued a statement noting that travelers carrying batteries in luggage violate International Civil Aviation Regulations, and such items will be confiscated with further actions taken against violators.

KIA management thanked passengers for their cooperation during the evacuation, reaffirming that passenger safety is their top priority.

Normal operations at Terminal 3 resumed shortly after the incident.
