Disgruntled staff of the Produce Buying Company of Ghana (PBC) have staged a protest at Abeka Junction over unpaid salaries.

This demonstration is part of a broader issue of delayed payments affecting employees.

The workers, dressed in red and carrying placards demanding better working conditions and timely salaries, are marching to the company’s headquarters in Dzorwulu to address their grievances directly with management.

This protest follows a similar one in the Ashanti region on May 29, 2024, reflecting widespread dissatisfaction among PBC staff.

The workers are also calling for a thorough investigation into the company’s financial management.

Seth Adusei, Vice Chairman of the Workers Union, has urged Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to expedite payment of their twelve-month overdue salaries.

Adusei highlighted the severe impact on employees, including health issues, deaths, and eviction from homes, and called for changes in the company’s management.

The financial difficulties at PBC have also led to legal issues. The Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) and other banks secured a court order preventing the sale or transfer of PBC’s assets, including its headquarters, to address the company’s financial crisis.
