
Renowned legal practitioner and activist, Mr. Akoto Ampaw, decries the current state of affairs pertaining to political governance and Ghana’s democracy during an interview with GTV.
Citing the effects of the dual-party monopoly in the country’s politics, the ace lawyers narrates that its effects have been ‘nothing to talk about’ especially if one analyzed the consequences of the ‘unaccountability’ of successive governments of the National Democratic Congress( NDC) and the New Patriotic Party(NPP) on the political, social, and economic welfare of the Ghanaian citizen.
Speaking on the question of any likelihood of internal political party reforms to improve on the quality o governance, the President’s Lawyer, stated that he could not foresee such event since most people joining the political parties do so solely with the intention of ‘making it in life’ and without any recourse to ideology.
He further explains that the parties benefit from the current status quo and stressed that changes will only occur when Ghanaians begin to assert their rights in an organized fashion.
