On Friday, August 23, the Vetting Committee of the People’s National Convention (PNC) completed the vetting process for presidential aspirants and candidates for key party positions.

David Apasera and Bernard Anbataayela Mornah will compete for the presidential candidate slot. Samson Asaki Awingobit is contending with another candidate for the National Chairman position.

The current Deputy General Secretary, Yakubu Faharudeen, is facing a challenge from Awudu Ishaq for the General Secretary role.

Abass Nuhu seeks to retain his position as National Organizer against Nii Noi Osekan, while two candidates are running for the National Women’s Organiser position.

Following their vetting, both David Apasera and Bernard Anbataayela Mornah expressed confidence in leading the party.

Apasera emphasized that a new strategy has been adopted to unite the party and propel it into the elections, noting that internal disputes had previously hindered his vision for the PNC.

Mornah, on the other hand, promised to eliminate ex-gratia payments if elected in 2025, criticizing the practice as a way for individuals to exploit the system for personal gain.

Bernard Anbataayela Mornah on his part said he will cancel ex-gratia if he wins power in 2025.

He said, “I can’t see why people continue to receive end of service benefits every four years when they are constant Members of Parliament.”

“I will cancel it because it is an avenue that people use to reap money from the poor Ghanaian,” he added.

It sounds like the party is gearing up for significant changes. Amending the constitution to better reflect the party’s brand could be a key move for aligning its policies and values.
