On October 20, 2024, the first-ever adult flag football championship, the Flag All-Star Game, was held at the Adringanor Astro Turf in Accra, with over 400 enthusiastic spectators in attendance.

Hosted by the Philadelphia Eagles Ghana Chapter and sponsored by the Philadelphia Eagles NFL team, this landmark event highlighted the growing popularity of flag football, which will be featured in the 2028 Olympics.

The Philadelphia Eagles, under the NFL Global Markets Program (GMP), have exclusive marketing rights to Ghana and are committed to promoting American football in the country.

Six adult flag football teams competed for the Flag All-Star Game trophy, including Accra Lightning Stars, Cape Coast Predators, Elite Sports United, Flag Fury, Koftown Bisons, and Tema Pirates. The event was supported by NFL Africa and the Ghana American Football Federation (GAFF).

The atmosphere was electrifying, with SWOOP, the Eagles’ mascot, engaging the crowd. Prominent local creators and sports personalities also cheered on the teams throughout the tournament.

In a closely contested final, Elite Sports United triumphed over the Cape Coast Predators with an 8-6 victory, claiming the championship trophy and exclusive Philadelphia Eagles merchandise. Koftown Bisons secured third place.

Shadrack Kossi of the Cape Coast Predators was named Best Offensive Player, while Richard Browne Asare of Elite Sports United earned both the MVP award and the title of Best Defensive Player.

The Flag All-Star Game followed a U-12 NFL Flag Championship held the day before, featuring 12 schools. Students participated in various activities and games, with prizes including Eagles merchandise.

The day concluded with a watch party for the Philadelphia Eagles vs. New York Giants game, where fans celebrated the Eagles’ 28-3 victory.

This successful event marks a significant step forward for American football in Ghana, reflecting the Philadelphia Eagles’ dedication to nurturing local talent and expanding opportunities in the sport.
