The Ghana Plastic Manufacturers’ Association (GPMA) and its partners have canceled their planned strike scheduled for July 10, 2024.
In a press release dated July 8, the GPMA stated that the strike has been called off to allow for further discussions with the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

“The Ghana Plastic Manufacturers’ Association (GPMA) and its partners, including the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), the National Association of Sachet & Packaged Water Producers (NASPAWAP), the Food & Beverage Association of Ghana (FABAG), and the Plastic Sellers Association of Ghana (PSAG), wish to inform the manufacturing sector, the general business community, and the public that we have had productive discussions with the Government (specifically, the Ministry of Trade & Industry) on Friday, July 5, 2024, regarding the implementation of the 5% Excise Tax on all locally manufactured plastic products,” the press release stated.
The press release further stated, “The Hon. Deputy Minister for Ministry of Trade & Industry, Hon. Michael Okyere Baafi (MP), has demonstrated good faith and assured us that he will facilitate further engagements and dialogue with the Government.
He has also committed to immediately initiating the necessary steps to halt the implementation.
The GPMA and its partners, including GUTA, NASPAWAP, FABAG, and PSAG, affirmed, “We have called off our planned demonstration scheduled for July 10, 2024, and we have suspended our plans to shut down production.”
