The Ghana Plastic Manufacturers Association (GPMA) has declared its intention to stage a protest on Wednesday, July 10, against the newly imposed 5% excise tax on locally produced plastic products.

Representing industry stakeholders, the GPMA had formally requested the government to suspend the tax on June 27, warning that failure to do so would result in a seven-day shutdown of production to highlight their dissatisfaction.
President Ebbo Botwe emphasized the urgency of reconsidering the tax, urging renewed dialogue with all stakeholders to mitigate potential economic consequences from the planned shutdown.
With the government yet to address their demands, the GPMA announced the protest in collaboration with the National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers and Plastic Sellers Association of Ghana in a statement dated Monday, July 1.

The demonstration will commence at Obra spot in Circle, proceed to Accra Technical University, and conclude at the Ministry of Finance, expecting over 400 participants.
The GPMA encourages all members to participate in the protest to ensure their concerns are heard and addressed.
