In a shocking incident that has left the community of Twifo Hemang in the Central Region reeling, 47-year-old Yaw Ansah has been arrested for allegedly assaulting his 7-year-old son with a machete, resulting in serious injuries to the child.

The assault reportedly occurred in Sumnyamekodur, a locality within the Hemang Lower Denkyira District, after the boy struggled to complete an errand assigned to him by his father.
Witnesses state that Ansah became enraged when his son expressed difficulty in completing the task of hacking palm fruit.
According to a resident who witnessed the aftermath, “I was at home when I heard the father instructing the boy to hack a palm fruit, but the boy said it was too difficult.
Moments later, we heard his screams. When we rushed over, we found his wrist slashed. We took him to the hospital right away.”
The child sustained a deep wound to his right wrist, with reports suggesting that Ansah allegedly attempted to sever it during the attack.
The injured boy was immediately taken to a local hospital for urgent medical attention.
Residents further revealed that this was not the first instance of violence against Ansah’s children. “He once chopped off part of his son’s finger,” said one local. “He’s always abusing the children and even threatens to sell them. This time, the police must take action.”
The alarming pattern of abuse has prompted the community to call for immediate intervention from the authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of the children in Ansah’s care.
In response to the incident, local police have launched an investigation into the matter.
Authorities are emphasizing the importance of protecting vulnerable children and are urging anyone with further information about the case to come forward.
Meanwhile, Yaw Ansah remains in police custody as the investigation continues.
