The Ghana Police Service has arrested Oheneba Nana Asiedu, a Kumasi-based radio and television presenter, on November 23, 2024, for offenses including the publication of false news, in violation of section 208 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

Asiedu had previously been invited by the police to assist in ongoing investigations concerning the spread of false information related to the upcoming December 7, 2024, general elections.

This followed the circulation of a video on social media that drew the attention of law enforcement and concerned citizens.

In the video, Asiedu is seen at Wontumi FM, a Kumasi-based radio station, making statements encouraging voters to cast their ballots for presidential candidates on separate days during the elections.

The police have stated that these assertions were factually inaccurate and misleading, leading to his arrest.

The Police described the content of the video as “false and likely to disturb the public peace,” particularly in the politically sensitive period leading up to the December 7 elections.

In an update on Saturday November 23, the police said the suspect was in its custody.

“The case will be presented before the court for him to face justice,” the police added.
