Police at Asokwa in the Ashanti Region are on a manhunt for individuals behind the defacing of artistic paintings at the Asokwa Interchange, which is being carried out by Visual Arts students from selected Senior High Schools.
Visual Arts students have, for the past week, busied themselves showcasing their drawing prowess on structures at the Asokwa Interchange, as the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, spearheads the initiative to mark the AshantiFest 2026 activities.
However, some unknown individuals have defaced most of the artworks created by the students, although the motive behind the act remains unknown.
The development has angered officials at the Asokwa Municipal Assembly, including the Municipal Chief Executive, Amo Kamel, who said he has tasked the security agencies to investigate the incident.
He indicated that the police and other security officers will rely on footage captured by a CCTV camera installed close to where the incident occurred.
He described the incident as unfortunate and referred to those behind the act as “nation wreckers.”
The Ashanti Regional Minister also took to his Facebook page to condemn the incident and accused elements within the opposition of being responsible for the act.
“They did same to Kwame Nkrumah. They love their party more than the country! Shame!” he wrote.
