The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into the alleged lynching of a prison officer at Iron City, a suburb of Kasoa, Central Region, which occurred over the weekend.

The officer, stationed at Nsawam Maximum Prison, Gideon Adu Boakye, was visiting his parents when the tragic incident happened.

Eyewitnesses claim he was mistaken for a thief, leading to the devastating outcome.

The Ghana Prisons Service reported that the officer’s body was found in a gutter, near Hope of Restoration School, near Red Ball, days after the incident.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Prisons Service Supt. Adamu Latif Abdul said the prison service is collaborating with the Police to bring the perpetrators to book.

“We heard on October 1 that one of our officers was unfortunately lynched at Kasoa. That is the information we have gathered so far. The police have commenced investigations into the whole issue.

“We have gathered that he went to visit his mother, and he went out to attend to some issues and the incident happened. Days later when he didn’t return the mother reported to the police.

“The issue is in the hands of the police, and we are waiting to find out what actually happened,” the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Prisons Service said.
