The Ghana Police Service has vowed to enhance security along the Bolgatanga-Tamale highway following a recent violent incident in which gunmen blocked parts of the road, leading to the tragic deaths of eight travelers.

This attack, linked to the ongoing conflict in Bawku, involved armed assailants setting up roadblocks at Gbimsi, near Walewale, where they targeted passengers based on their identity and burned vehicles.
In response, the Ghana Police Service released a statement reassuring the public of their commitment to a stronger security presence on the highway to prevent further incidents.
The police outlined plans for increased joint patrols by both Police and Military forces along the Bolgatanga-Walewale-Tamale corridor, aimed at ensuring the safety of travelers and managing traffic in these high-risk areas.
Additionally, efforts to stabilize the situation in Bawku have intensified, with increased deployments of Police and Military personnel in the conflict-prone town and its surroundings.
These measures are intended to restore peace and order, with the police reiterating their dedication to maintaining law and order in Bawku and its environs despite the ongoing challenges.
“Aside the Police and Military deployment in Bawku and its environs, there is also a joint Police and Military deployment along the Bolgatanga-Walewale-Tamale highway to ensure security and manage vehicular traffic.
“The security agencies would like to once again assure the public that we are committed to maintaining peace, security, law and order in Bawku and its environs.”
