The Ghana Police Service has urged the public to dismiss media reports suggesting that the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has been instructed to proceed on leave.

In a press release issued on Sunday, the police stated: “The public should disregard this fake news and treat it with the contempt it deserves.”

The release further added: “The Inspector-General of Police remains committed to his patriotic duty of leading the Ghana Police Service as per the mandate given to him by the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo.”

The police quickly responded to media reports that suggested the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, had been asked to take leave due to findings against him by a parliamentary committee investigating attempts to remove him from office.

The reports also claimed that COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno would take over command temporarily.
