Police investigate 9-year-old’s drowning at Koforidua hotel

The Koforidua Divisional Police Command has initiated an investigation into the death of a nine-year-old girl who drowned at the Tonyx Hotel in Aberewa Nkwanta, within the New Juaben South Constituency of the Eastern Region.

The incident occurred on Sunday while the girl was at the hotel with her father and five siblings. Reports suggest that she was not swimming but taking pictures with other children near the pool.

Tragically, she was found at the bottom of the pool after a search was conducted when her absence was noticed as the family prepared to leave.

Authorities are working to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident as investigations continue.

Health professionals at the Eastern Regional Hospital pronounced her dead on arrival after she was rushed to the facility shortly after being retrieved from the pool.

Meanwhile, the management of the hotel has pledged to assist the police in their investigations and is expected to address the media regarding the incident.
