The Ghana Police Service has summoned Oheneba Nana Asiedu, a Kumasi-based radio and television presenter, to assist in investigations over the spread of false news regarding the upcoming December 7 general elections.

This action follows the circulation of a video on social media that caught the attention of law enforcement and concerned citizens. The video shows Oheneba Nana Asiedu in the studios of Wontumi FM, a Kumasi-based radio station, making claims encouraging voters to cast their ballots for presidential candidates on separate days during the general elections.
The Ghana Police Service has labeled Oheneba Nana Asiedu’s statements as factually incorrect, misleading, and potentially disruptive to public peace.
A police statement on the incident emphasized the potential repercussions of such misinformation, especially in a politically charged period leading up to December 7.
The police statement reiterated that the suspect has been summoned to report to the Ashanti Regional Police Command in Kumasi to provide information and cooperate fully with the investigation process.
The Ghana Police Service also used the opportunity to caution the general public, with a particular emphasis on media practitioners, about the grave responsibility they bear in disseminating accurate and verified information.
