The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into a violent attack on the office and residence of Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the outgoing Minister for Communication and Digitalization. Reports indicate that a gang of about 15 men allegedly invaded the premises, causing extensive damage and stealing several items.

The incident, which occurred at approximately 1:17 PM on Monday, December 9, 2024, involved the theft of cash, a Nissan Hardbody vehicle, a television, printer, two stabilizers, mobile phones, food supplies, and three brand-new motorbikes. The perpetrators also vandalized CCTV cameras, barbed wire, and the office door.
In response, the Crime Scene Management team visited the location as part of the ongoing investigation. The Police have confirmed that a targeted intelligence-led operation is underway to apprehend the suspects. They assured the public that the perpetrators would be brought to justice and that security at Owusu-Ekuful’s office and residence has been heightened to ensure her safety.

Authorities have not confirmed whether this attack is linked to the unrest following Ghana’s 2024 general elections. Notably, in Damongo, angry youth burned the Electoral Commission office to protest delays in announcing election results.
Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Minister of Communications, lost her parliamentary seat in the elections. Rev. Kweku Addo of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) secured victory with 31,866 votes, defeating Owusu-Ekuful’s 26,575 votes.
Authorities have called for calm and urged the public to refrain from unlawful actions as the nation moves toward a peaceful transition. The Police continue to maintain heightened security measures to restore order and protect public safety.
