The Ghana Police Service has withdrawn its application to halt the ‘#DumsorMustStop’ demonstration, initially scheduled for Saturday, May 25, 2024. The withdrawal comes after the organizers agreed to modify their initial protest route.
On Friday, May 24, 2024, Justice Lydia Osei Marfo announced in court that the applicants (Ghana Police Service) had submitted a written request to withdraw their application, which was subsequently struck out.

The police had previously urged the organizers to adjust the timing of the protest and relocate the venue, citing concerns about the planned endpoint at Revolution Square, which is close to Jubilee House, a designated security zone. However, the organizers declined, leading the police to file a motion to stop the event entirely.
The motion, filed on May 20, 2024, sought an order prohibiting the respondents from holding the picketing, citing grounds contained in an accompanying affidavit. But with the withdrawal, the case, titled “Inspector General of Police vs Yvonne Nelson, Selorm Dramani Dzramado, and Henry Osei Akoto,” has been struck out.
Actress Yvonne Nelson, who organized a similar protest in 2015, claims that the intermittent power cuts are affecting her business. She and her team had met with the police to notify them of the intended protest but faced opposition over the proposed route and endpoint.
