Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has emphasized that political loyalty is no longer determined by ethnic background or tribal affiliation, challenging the traditional view held by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking to community members in Ahwerewam, located within the Ahafo Ano South-East Constituency of the Ashanti Region, Asiedu Nketiah pointed to the changing political dynamics, noting that both the NPP and NDC presidential candidates for the upcoming election hail from the Northern Region.

He suggested that this development marks a significant shift, with voters now placing greater importance on policies and leadership qualities rather than ethnic ties.

“If you are Akan, you vote for NPP, if you’re a Northerner, vote NDC. We didn’t even know that the Akans agree that it is better when the NDC is in power. Whether you’re NPP or NDC, you have to vote for Teni [Northerner].

“Definitely, a Northener will be president in 2025, we have two Northerners but we have to vote based on their records. We need to recognise that Mahama embarks on projects in Akan cities rather than the North.

“The NPP liked Northerners so they went in for a Northerner as well. The NPP’s Northerner cannot be compared to John Mahama.”
